Christmas Gifts Recap!

28 Dec

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great week! Friday party time!!

What are you all doing for the weekend? We should be pacing ourselves for New Years Eve, I guess.

I hope you all enjoyed my Quinoa recipe yesterday, that is a new favorite of mine and I will be making it again very soon.

As you know, on Wednesday I did a recap of my Christmas Eve and Christmas Day eats! If you’re planning on making that menu any time soon, I would advise getting a weeks worth of “non-restrictive” pants.

Anyways, I told you about the Christmas eats, and now on to gifties! I know that Christmas is NOT about presents. I am a firm believer in the fact that being with family and friends over the holidays is all you need! However, I got some awesome gifts from family and friends and I want to give a shout out to show how much I appreciated everything.

Here are a few of the things that I was lucky enough to get gifted to me on Christmas:

China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection - Pizzazz-500x500

China Glaze nail polish in Pizzazz

China Glaze nail polish in Flip Flop fantasy.

My sister Jenna got me both of those guys in my stocking, she knows I love China glaze polishes best.

Old Navy Knitted Infinity Scarf

I love this sooo much, it is warm and cozy and my favorite color!

American Eagle Super Dark Jeggings

I’m not going to lie, I pretty much live in jeggings. I find they are the most comfortable and they fit me better than most regular jeans.

David’s Tea Timolino Travel Mug

I love this thing! It has a steeper built in and even a secret compartment to stow extra loose tea.

My mom got me the scarf, jeans, tea mug and a bunch of other things too!

Lu Lu Lemon No Limits Tank in black

I’ve had my eye on this baby for a while and Mr. Delish listened to me so well and got the right size and color too, score!

Lu Lu Lemon Back Burner Tank in Black Swan

He also picked this one out and chose a beauty color! It’s a really dark purple and it has sparkly stuff woven into it!

Then lastly, something shiny:

This is a custom necklace from Laladesign Studio on Etsy! Lauren makes these beautiful necklaces by hand by bending the wire into your initials. You can get one like mine in Gold, Silver or even Rose Gold which is super pretty!

She also has necklaces, earrings and other items!

Anyways, that was some of my Christmas haul, I also got a bunch of stuff from Bath & Body Works, gift cards, PJ’s, candy and all that kind of stuff!

I’m a spoiled brat, I know!

Miss Delish asks:

What did you get for Christmas?

What did you GIVE for Christmas?

Winter Apple & Cranberry Quinoa

27 Dec

Good Morning Lovelies!! I hope everyone is having a fabulous day so far.

Many of you are probably back to work today after having some time off for holidays, that is if you didn’t have to work yesterday (like me) or if you aren’t one of those lucky you-know-whats that is off until after the New Year.

If you are one of those lucky you-know-whats, I’m not sure if we can still be friends.

Okay, okay, I forgive you and I will put aside my jealousy since it is the holidays.

Now that Christmas has come and gone, I guess we move on to New Years!

Mr. Delish and I have been invited to a beautiful 4 course meal and then drinks and dancing! The event is put on by the Fraser Valley Italo-Canadian Club and I have heard of people going in previous years and it sounds like an amazing way to spend New Years eve! I am expecting a delicious meal, too.

Oh and some wine of course!

I know a lot of people tend to make New Years Resolutions around this time of year as well. Personally, I don’t make resolutions just because I think a lot of times they fail and then you end up feeling guilty.

For example, one of the fitness classes I go to at my gym, normally has the same group of ladies that take the class 3 times a week. I’d say there is probably about 15-20 women that have been going for a long time. Then every year when January rolls around, the class will be PACKED for the first 2 weeks and then it will slowly trail off to the same group of 15-20 ladies.

I’m not sure what it is but it just seems like trying to make a change for a certain period of time is kind of setting you up for disaster, you’re more likely to work hard at something if you don’t put a time frame on it. Especially with fitness, it is something that you have to incorporate into your daily life, and just make it part of your routine. Eventually you get used to it and even grow to enjoy it. Whereas the resolution lets you go strong for a couple of weeks, then slowly lose your momentum and then stop entirely. Then you feel guilty and beat yourself up about it, which makes you depressed and less motivated to get back on the horse and try again.

I’m not saying resolutions don’t work, I am sure there are people out there that really stick to their resolutions and make them happen!

So since I am not resolving to do anything specific, I will just say that I really need to post more on this little site of mine, it’s getting ridiculous here.

Especially because this recipe I am about to post, was supposed to be posted directly after the Lemony White Wine Pork Chops recipe…that I posted on December 10th….

Well technically this is the next recipe I posted, but it just happened to be 16 days later…

Christmas Food Recap!

26 Dec

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and that you got to celebrate with family and friends!

We celebrated with my family and it was easy since we are living with my parents right now. I must say that walk upstairs in my PJ’s was terribly exhausting! Ha!

Today I am going to do a recap of some of the food we enjoyed over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and then later this week I will do a gifts post!

On Christmas eve, Mr. Delish and I whipped up Jamie’s Christmas Jerk Ham which we spotted on his Christmas special and knew we HAD to make it. It was nothing short of amazing!

We actually had a spiral ham which is already cooked, so we didn’t do the boiling portion of the recipe, we just made the jerk marinade and then baked the ham for about 2 hours and then finished it off with the marmalade and rum! So yummy.

I even instagrammed it!

Speaking of instagram, I also noticed that when I got my new iphone, my instagram photos started posting to my regular facebook wall, not my blog page! So the pictures I posted over the past week or so, weren’t actually posting for you to see! Don’t worry though, I will post them all throughout this week so you can see them. It you’re not following me on instagram, please do you can follow one of the links I just posted or find me under ‘missdelish’ I love internet friends!

Lemony Pork Chops with White Wine and Sage

10 Dec

Ooooh weee.

It’s Monday. Groan.

Who else is excited for the beginning of a new week?…

Since it’s Monday, and I’m probably not even totally awake yet, I’m just going to get right to the food here. This recipe is one that my mom started making many years ago. It’s hilarious because it is out of the Susanne Somers “Get Skinny” cookbook, circa 2001.

The original recipe calls for pork tenderloin which you could definitely use,  but I used boneless pork chops because I think they have more flavour than the tenderloin.

Those pork chops are drenched in an amazing white wine and sage sauce and they are SO tasty.

Like seriously…c’mon. How can you resist that.

I served them with an amazing quinoa dish that I will share this week as well!

Make this, right now and you can thank me later.

Miss Delish asks:

Do you get a case of the “Monday’s” at the beginning of every week?

What is your best tip for making it through the worst day of the week?

Lemony Pork Chops with White Wine and Sage

Prep Time: 2 hours

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 2 hours, 20 minutes

Yield: Serves 6

Lemony Pork Chops with White Wine and Sage

Juicy pork chops seared and then roasted in lemon juice, white wine and sage.

  • 6 boneless pork chops
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped sage
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (please use stuff that you would actually drink)
  • 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

In a ziplock bag, add the pork chops, olive oil, lemon juice, 1 tbsp of the chopped sage, and season generously with salt and pepper. Seal the bag and massage the bag to coat the pork in the marinade. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours before cooking.

Once the pork has marinated, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Heat a cast iron skillet over medium high heat until very hot. Add the pork chops and cook for about 3-4 minutes until nice and brown, flip and brown for another 3-4 minutes on the other side. Place the skillet in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes to finish cooking the pork through.

Remove from the oven and take the pork out of the pan and set aside on a plate. Place the skillet back on the stove over medium high heat. Once hot, add the white wine, it’s going to bubble up and steam. Using a wooden spoon, scrape the bottom of the pan to release those little brown bits. Once the wine has reduced, add the chicken broth and simmer over medium heat until reduced slightly.

Add in the remaining chopped sage and season to taste with salt and pepper. Add the cooked pork chops back to the sauce and spoon some of the sauce over the chops.

Serve immediately.

Super Easy Mint Chocolate Truffles

6 Dec

Hey Guys!

I hope you are all having a fabulous Thursday so far. My week has been a bit bananas, hence the not posting. Sorry!

Mr. Delish and I are supposed to wrap up our Christmas shopping tonight (read: I had to bribe him with food court chinese food to get him to reluctantly agree to come)

EVERY gosh darn year, I get my Christmas shopping done SUPER early. Like beginning of December early. Considering I can be a horrible procrastinator, that is like a miracle.

A Christmas miracle, you could say.

Anyways, before I can even pat myself on the back for suppressing my inner procrastinator, I remember that Mr. Delish hasn’t even STARTED his shopping yet. And by started, I mean, hasn’t even thought for one second about who he needs to buy for or what he may get them.

The first couple years that I came across this issue, I would drag him to the mall, and be like “OK, what do you need to get?” and he would wander around aimlessly with no clue what he was going to buy or who he needed to buy for.

Luckily we’ve been together a long enough time (almost nine years, what??) that I am smart to his ways. Now I always make sure to get him locked in on his gift ideas, well before time. Then all I have to do is bribe and weasel my way into bringing him to the mall and picking up the items.

It’s easy…ier than before.

Okay, onto the food.

This is that third truffle recipe, you know the one that I was supposed to post a week ago?

Ya…that one.

These are SUPER EASY (hence the name) and incredibly yummy for how simple they are. My mom has been making these every Christmas since, before I was born I think?

I love them and Christmas wouldn’t be the same without everyone eating these all before Christmas even happens. Then my Mom yells and swears that she won’t be make another batch…”those will be the end of them!” Then she promptly makes another batch.

I love my Mom.
